Europe-wide call for tenders, second competition phase for design of the permanent exhibition.

IGLHAUT + von GROTE Ausstellungsgestaltung und Design / Humboldt-Forum
Project text:

At the public ceremony conducted by the staatliche Museen zu Berlin (Berlin state Museums) for the redesign of the Ethnologisches Museum (Ethnological Museum) and the Museum für Ostasiatische Kunst (Museum for East Asian Art) in the future Humboldt forum – the much-discussed rebuilding of the Berliner Stadtschloss (Berlin City Palace) – each of our plans for developing the museums numbered the second prize as chosen by a distinguished jury. Our partner was the Berlin architectural practice Mila/Jakob Tigges.
The core of our proposal was a dynamic presentation conforming to the specific demands of both the ethnological Museum and the Museum for East Asian Art while bringing the two facilities together to create a compelling overall impression.
The spatial schema took into account all design and communicative parameters, focussing on objects, illuminating context and encouraging shifts in perspective. A visit to the exhibition becomes a journey through the cultures and continents of the world.
