IGLHAUT + von GROTE Ausstellungsgestaltung und Design / MS Wissenschaft 2014 science exhibition ship –Digital Society
Project text:

With an on-board exhibition reflecting the “Digital Society” theme of Science Year 2014, the MS Wissenschaft sailed through 38 cities in Germany and Austria, attracting a total of 90,000 visitors.

Every year, the German Education Ministry’s floating Science Center offers a fascinating insight into research, targeted especially at school pupils of 12 years and upwards, as well as families.

The on-board interactive exhibition “Digital Unterwegs” (Digital Journey) was very much focused on the issue of digitalisation in our society,

which has given rise to a global network structure on a hitherto unimaginable scale. Billions of users are already connected with each other digitally, others are on the way to connecting – or being connected – to this network. Integrating into an expanding network of electronic synapses in this way results in something like a “global brain”.

In the exhibition, situations and projects were drawn from everyday life to sensitise visitors to the issue, targeting broad visitor groups. With the help of illustrative, interactive exhibits, both children and adults were able to get closer to these abstract topics.

All of this was told through both scientific and illustrative media installations. This included the conception and design of hands-on and interactive exhibits that accompanied visitors through the exhibition in a playful way.
