Tasks Competition for two Permanent Exhibitions

Following the public call for entries by the State Museums of Berlin (Staatliche Museen zu Berlin) regarding the redesign of the Ethnological Museum and the Museum of Eastern Asian Art in the planned Humboldt-Forum – the much-discussed reconstruction of the City Palace Berlin – the high-ranking prize jury selected our proposals for both museums among the best four in each case. Our partner is the Berlin architectural office Mila von Jakob Tigges. As from 28th August 2010, coinciding with the Long Night of Museums in Berlin, all competition entries can be seen in an exhibition taking place in the Kronprinzenpalais.

The task description of the competition realised by the Federal Office of Building and Regional Planning read as follows: “It is the aim of the competition to develop exhibition architecture for the use of the museums in an area measuring circa 17,500 m2. This space should take into account the changing conditions of modern exhibitions. The goal is a durable, open structure which translates and reflects in a quality manner the diversity, alterations, thematic changes and current references of the museum collections.”

Our proposal focuses on developing dynamic forms of presentation, which correspond to the specific demands of both the Ethnological Museum and the Museum of Eastern Asian Art. At the same time, the intention is to connect both institutions to create an impressive overall experience.

We now look forward to the next stage of the competition!
