Client City of Oberhausen
Location Oberhausen, former Thyssen site
Working time 2002
Tasks Production of a feasibility study, in collaboration with Martin Roth and Fred-M. Dillenberger, for an urban-developmental project

The urban-developmental project “O.Vision” envisaged the layout of a future park on the ca. 60 hectares of waste land that had formerly been a Thyssen steelworks, not far from the CENTRO Oberhausen. Developed as a showpiece of the complex structural changes in the economy and society of the Rhine-Ruhr Region, this was to include themes with which the companies and research institutions now settled there are actively concerned. Questions concerning robotics, medical technology or current micro- and nanotechnology were to be presented, but not only via the classical medium of the exhibition. Instead, the concept recommended a combination of commerce, events and industry, service provision and transport structures alongside culture and science, in order to create a new type of urban ambience. Parts of the project were followed up insofar as funding was available, and are being continued in further development together with various partners.
