The title “Synapse” stands for a new kind of festival relating to the network society. Starting out from the cities of Stuttgart, Karlsruhe and Offenburg, the plan was to organise thematic exhibitions, concerts, performances and lectures every two years in different simultaneous venues. The common denominator would be content focusing on the many facets of the deep-seated structural changes that have defined transition into an information or knowledge society. The aim was to reveal current technological and economic innovations along with their diverse consequences for private and public life, work, education or commercial culture. The expert evaluation was produce in cooperation with Burda Media and the Centre for Art and Media Technology (Zentrum für Kunst und Medientechnologie) in Karlsruhe.
